To determine if Australian abalone had the propensity to take up marine toxins from the environment.
Paralytic Shellfish Toxins (PSTs) are the most common and widespread marine biotoxins detected globally. Blooms of toxic algae in Tasmania are becoming more frequent and have the ability to affect seafood grown in these regions. This report looks into potential uptake mechanisms of the toxin by the abalone, its distribution to tissues and its propensity to depurate the toxin.
